Meet Your Coordinator is our new series where we will be interviewing your local Youth Ventures Coordinator so you can get to know them. First up is Amanda-Marie Hillyard who is based out of Grand Lake Centre of Economic Development.

 Amanda-Marie Hillyard

What Youth Ventures site are you based out of?

 Grand Lake of Economic Development

What are some of your favourite hobbies?

 Reading, writing, knitting, travel

What’s your favourite movie?

 The Lord of the Rings Trilogy (it only counts as one!)

What is your favourite band/artist?

 The Amazing Devil – they are a dramatic, lyrical folk-alt band.  They are like modern day bards, and they are, like their name, amazing.

What is your favourite restaurant?

 Newfound Sushi in Corner Brook is fabulous. 

Do you have any pets?

 Not currently.

What is a fun fact about you?

 Life is too short to wear matching socks!

What does entrepreneurship mean to you?

 It means finding creative solutions to the problems you see in the world, whether it’s big picture problems or problems that are just in your small corner of the world.

What is the coolest business you heard of?

 Cormack Bee Company in Cormack – bees are vital to our world, with no bees much of the food crops we have won’t propagate. And they make amazing things with their honey – flavoured honeys, lip balms, beeswax wraps and candles, etc

What are you looking forward to most this summer?

 Helping youth take that spark and fan it into the flame of creating a business from their passions and interests.

What are some interesting business opportunities you see in your region?

 There are all kinds of interesting opportunities now!  Agriculture, technology, community building, etc

What do youth in NL need to know about Youth Ventures?

 We are here to help you figure it out!  It might seem daunting to start a business, but you won’t be alone!

What is a piece of advice you have for people of any age who are considering starting a business?

 Try and develop a passion into employment – if you love what you do, you put so much into it.
