Meet Your Coordinator: Bobbi-Jo Mauger – CBDC Long Range

Meet Your Coordinator is a series where we interview your Youth Ventures coordinators so that you can get to know them. We are back again for the 2018 Youth Ventures season, and today we have Bobby-Jo Mauger at CBDC Long Range.

What’s your name?

Bobbi-Jo Mauger

What Youth Ventures site are you based out of?

CBDC Long Range (Stephenville)

What are some of your favourite hobbies?

Geo-caching, reading, walking, working out

What’s your favourite movie?

I’ll go back to my favourite movie as a kid, The Never Ending Story and my favourite Christmas movie is A Christmas Story

What is your favourite band?

Again so many to choose from but I do love PINK, also love Sherman Downey

What is your favourite restaurant?

If I had to pick a place for lunch right now, here in Stephenville I’d probably choose The Islander.  It’s a small restaurant  in the airport.  Any choice, Montana’s.

Do you have any pets?

I have two dogs, 1 is a Chihuahua mix named KC and the other is a mutt adopted from Goose Bay through the Gander SPCA, his name is Tucker.  I also have a cat that was a rescue from the White Bay dump cats and his name is Simon.  Is it totally ridiculous to say I also have two gerbils named Gerald and Gary….that’s it, I promise lol

What does entrepreneurship mean to you?

Entrepreneurship is pursuing your dreams, not someone else’s.

What is the coolest business you heard of?

I will have to send a Coolest Business Shout Out to Madison Dicks, Jessie Lawrence, and Vinn Elliott, founders of Camp Ohana.  A summer camp based in Western NL for LGBTQ+ youth ages 14-18 to learn and grow while enjoying the outdoors.  Check their group out on Facebook

What are you looking forward to most this summer?

I am really excited to work with youth in the area and see how creative they will be in starting their own businesses.

What are some interesting business opportunities you see in your region?

A great business opportunity I see for this region would be bike rentals.  We have new bike paths in the works and I think it would be a great business idea for one of our participants.

What do youth in NL need to know about Youth Ventures?

Youth Ventures is here to help you through the whole process of starting your business, show you support and help get your business out there to the public where it means the most.

What is the most important thing people of any age who want to start a business need to know?

When starting a business , no matter your age, you need to know patience!  You won’t have success and lots of money rolling in overnight.  Also, having a supportive network, like Youth Ventures, family and friends, is extremely important as they will be the ones supporting your through your successes as well as your possible failures.

How can people get in touch with you if they’d like to talk about starting a business?
