We are excited to share our 2021 Outstanding Venture (17 Years & Under) Winner, Charlotte Kenny (Witless Bay, NL) for her business, Cakes by Charlotte!
Here’s Charlotte’s story…
In the Beginning
Charlotte discovered her love of baking when she was little. She started making birthday cakes for her family and friends and they were such a big hit that she started receiving requests to purchase her custom cakes: and so Cakes by Charlotte began!
Why Entrepreneurship?
What Charlotte loves most about being an entrepreneur is that she gets to make a living doing something she enjoys. An important bonus for her is the freedom to make her own work hours!
Making it Happen with Youth Ventures
Charlotte started working with Youth Ventures in June 2021. She recalls that they really helped her expand her customer base by guiding her through developing her online presence on social media platforms. They even helped her learn time management skills so she could still develop her business while attending school and enjoying hockey practice!
What’s Next
As always, Charlotte strives to continue to provide the best possible custom cakes and cupcakes to her customers. She’ll maintain Cakes by Charlotte while she goes back to school, but she prioritizes study and hockey during the school year.
Charlotte already feels so successful because of the recognition she has received for Cakes by Charlotte by winning this year’s Outstanding Venture (17 Years & Under) award. She said, “Reading the nomination letters for this award was a valuable part of this experience.”
Moment of Reflection
Charlotte advises other young entrepreneurs like her “to make sure you love doing what you are doing.” That’s the secret to her success!
